Blue Devils meet challenge, upset Buckeyes • NO. 11 DUKE 83, NO. 3 OHIO STATE 67: Jasmine Thomas scored 24 of her career-high 29 points during the second half for the Blue Devils in an upset of the Buckeyes in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Thursday night in Durham, N.C. Allison Vernerey added a season-high 13 points for the Blue Devils (6-1), the only team to play the top three schools in The Associated Press Top 25. Duke visits No. 2 Stanford on Dec. 15 and face No. 1 Connecticut next month. Jantel Lavender had 20 points and 18 rebounds for Ohio State (8-1), which beat its first eight opponents by an average of 27 points but was held to fewer than 83 points for the first time this season. Minneapolis South graduate Tayler Hill scored 13 points and Samantha Prahalis finished with 10 points for the Buckeyes. "I just think they came at us, with just an attitude, like, 'We were going to win this game,' " Prahalis said. "For whatever reason, we didn't come back at them."

NO. 22 MICHIGAN STATE 72, NO. 4 NORTH CAROLINA 66: Allyssa DeHaan scored all of her 14 points in the second half for the host Spartans. Michigan State led by 11 points in the second half before North Carolina rallied to take a 64-63 lead with about 2:30 left. DeHaan's jumper with 2:11 left put Michigan State back ahead for good, 65-64.

WISCONSIN 53, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 48: The Badgers (7-1) overcame a five-point deficit in the final 12 1/2 minutes and won in Raleigh, N.C. Taylor Wurtz and Tara Steinbauer led the Badgers with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

CLEMSON 69, NORTHWESTERN 68: Kirstyn Wright hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 6 seconds left, and the Tigers (5-3) beat the Wildcats (5-2) in Evanston, Ill. Brittany Orban's 21 points led Northwestern, which has lost in consecutive years to the Tigers by a combined four points.

MICHIGAN 71, VIRGINIA TECH 51: Guards Veronica Hicks and Dayeesha Hollins combined for 35 points for the Wolverines (5-2) in Blacksburg, Va.

WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY 79, NO. 21 DePAUL 68: The host Phoenix (6-0) extended its regular-season winning streak to 24 games by beating the Blue Demons (5-2), who were the last team to defeat Green Bay, 76-68 last Dec. 29. Green Bay beat its first top 25 opponent since winning at TCU on Dec. 3, 2002.

NO. 24 KANSAS 54, UCLA 49: Krysten Boogaard his two clinching free throws in the final 18 seconds, and the host Jayhawks (5-2) held off the Bruins.

Men's highlights

TEXAS TECH 99, NO. 12 WASHINGTON 92 (OT): The host Red Raiders had a winning three-pointer overturned on review at the end of regulation, but John Roberson's 25 points rallied Tech to victory. Roberson, who finished 13-for-13 on free throws, had a steal and a layup with 44 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Red Raiders, who are 8-0 for the first time since 1929. Quincy Pondexter scored 31 points for the Huskies (5-1). Teammate Elston Turner missed two free throws with 4.8 seconds left in regulation with the score tied at 80.

IUPUI 79, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 57: Robert Glenn's 21 points led four players for IUPUI (6-2) players in double figures in the Summie League opener for both teams. Anthony Cordova scored 14 points for South Dakota State (2-5).

NORTH DAKOTA STATE 60, WESTERN ILLINOIS 55: Eric Carlson scored 19 points, and Josh Vaughan sank four of four free throws in the final final 30 seconds for the Bison (3-3) in their Summit League opener in Macomb, Ill.

• Dereck Whittenburg, who led North Carolina State to an upset of Houston in the 1983 NCAA final, was fired five games into his seventh season as Fordham's coach. Whittenburg compiled a 69-112 record, including 1-4 this season.
