Coleman's no 'rat' for blowing the whistle on Petters Co.

October 10, 2008 at 3:42AM

Courageous: Deanna Coleman, ending her career and likely many months of personal freedom, in stepping forward to end the nefarious activities taking place within Petters Co., Inc.Outrageous: The on-air use of the phrase "ratted-out," by an on-camera KSTP-TV reporter, to describe Coleman's actions. The vernacular of criminals, typically used against those who expose them, puts that ignorant young reporter in the category of unworthy of being on the air. Both the news organization in general and the news director in specific who allowed it have dropped Channel 5 to the nadir of professional broadcasting "standards." Everyone in the KSTP organization ought to be ashamed of this usage on their airwaves.Deanna Coleman, meanwhile, deserves an award. MARK RILEY, ST. PAUL
