January 20, 2011 at 8:25PM

The NFL Championship Game on Dec. 31, 1967, between the Dallas Cowboys andGreen Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. was the coldestprofessional football game ever played. At the start of the game, thetemperature was 15 below zero and the wind chill was 45 below. It was so coldthat officials were unable to use their whistles for fear they would freeze totheir lips. The band could not perform for the same reason. This Sunday, it will be very cold for the championship games in both Pittsburghand Chicago, but nowhere near as cold as the Ice Bowl in 1967. At game time inChicago Sunday afternoon, it will be 19 degrees. A few hours later inPittsburgh, it will be 16 degrees at kickoff. Thing of it is there won't be anystrong winds at either location Sunday, which will make it a bit morehospitable.
