Cold, Snowy Pattern to Last Into Next Week

December 9, 2009 at 1:25PM

Winter is out of the gate already and shows no signs of letting up. Currently, extremely cold air covers much of the West and Great Plains, and the UpperMidwest and northern Great Lakes are still getting slammed by a brutal blizzardtoday. The overall flow into next week favors cold air to remain well entrenchedacross a large portion of the United States. Add to that a very active Southernstorm track, and one has all the ingredients necessary for quite a bit of snowyweather.

What AccuWeather.com meteorologists found very interesting Tuesday was that oneof the long-range computer models suggested there would be a major snowstormfrom the Mississippi River Valley to the Northeast next week. Of course, oneknows that a model forecast a week away can turn out to be complete sciencefiction. There is room for a storm though, so let's see how things unfold.

First things first. A powerful winter storm will put a big hurt on the UpperMidwest and northern Great Lakes today.
