Rescue crews combing the wreckage left in the wake of Friday's earthquake andtsunami in Japan will welcome dry weather this weekend, but cold temperatureswill endanger those without shelter or power.The dry weather will prevail throughout northern and central Japan this weekendwith an area of high pressure overhead, aiding rescue and cleanup operations.
Those left without shelter or power, however, will be faced with chillyconditions into Saturday.
Temperatures in Sendai, one of the larger cities located closest to theearthquake's epicenter, will dip into the upper 20s (F) Friday night (localtime). Highs on Saturday will only recover to around 40 degrees.
The weekend will end on a milder note with afternoon highs Sunday rising tonear 50 degrees.
Tokyo, which also endured intense shaking during the powerful earthquake, willnot be exempt from the cool weather. Temperatures will plummet to aroundfreezing Friday night before recovering into the lower 50s F Saturday.
The dry conditions will not last into early next week. More substantial rainwill return to central and northern Japan Monday afternoon and night.
That rain will be followed by an invasion of fresh cold air during the middleof next week. Snow may also accompany the cold blast in Sendai.
