The original film's director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell have assembled a creative team including Cody as screenwriter and Uruguayan horror-meister Fede Alvarez as director/co-writer. According to production company Ghost House Pictures, the film won't be a sequel to the three earlier entries, but a full-on remake.
Cody's earlier foray into slapstick splatter, the demon comedy "Jennifer's Body," was uneven at best, but it displayed a sense of blood-soaked mischief in keeping with the "Evil Dead" franchise. Here's hoping they don't spend a lot of money on high-tech special effects. The cheesy homemade quality of the project was a big part of the 1981 shocker's charm.
