In memory of St. Martin

Thursday-Sunday: St. Martin of Tours was a 13th-century bishop and a true man of peace. Remarkable medieval chants and elegant prose were composed in his honor. Rose Ensemble celebrates him in a program called "Martin's Cloak: Chant, Poetry and Prose From Medieval Tours, France," illuminated by candlelight. (7:30 p.m. Thu., Sacred Heart Music Center, Duluth; 8 p.m. Fri., Church of St. Agnes, 548 Lafond Av., St. Paul; 8 p.m. Sat., Basilica of St. Mary, 88 N. 17th St., Mpls.; 3 p.m. Sun., Church of the Holy Cross, 1621 University Av. NE., Mpls., $10-$39, 651-225-4340, www.roseensemble.org.)

'Passion from the Pampas'

Sunday: Bakken Trio's winter recital features the work of Argentine composers, opening with Alberto Ginastera's rhapsodic Pampeana #2 for cello and piano and closing with "Four, for Tango," by Astor Piazzolla. Also included are songs by Osvaldo Golijov, sung by soprano Christie Hageman, who sang Liu in "Turandot" last spring at Minnesota Opera and will sing Pamina in the upcoming "Magic Flute." Hageman also performs "Seven Popular Spanish Songs" by Manuel de Falla. (4 p.m. Sun., MacPhail Center, 501 S. 2nd St., Mpls., $20-$25, 612-374-3175, bakkentrio.org.)

Jean-Efflam Bavouzet

Sunday: The French pianist, featured in a Chopin Society recital, was named artist of the year by the International Classical Music Awards in 2012. A former student of Pierre Sancan at the Paris Conservatoire, he was discovered by Georg Solti in 1995. His program includes two works from the 18th and 19th centuries: a Haydn sonata and Beethoven's heroic "Waldstein" sonata. He also plays two 20th-century masterpieces: Debussy's extremely difficult Etudes, Book 1, and Bartok's 1926 Piano Sonata. (3 p.m. Sun., Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Macalester College, 30 S. Macalester St., St. Paul, $20-$25, 612-822-0123, www.chopinsocietymn.org.)

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
