CANTUS

Opening Thursday: The narrative theme of Cantus' fall concert, "A Place for Us," is the search for home. They use the concert's title song, from "West Side Story," and Sibelius' "Finlandia" to honor Latino and Scandinavian immigrants. They feature music of the Americas, from American Indian songs to an Inuit chant to a celebration of Hawaiian traditions. The concert includes two world premieres: Cantus member Paul John Rudoi sets "Let America Be America Again," a poem by Langston Hughes. From Sarah Kirkland Snider comes the commission "Psalm of the Soil," using an Appalachian folk hymn as her starting point. (7:30 Thu., Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av.
