Classes at Harriet Bishop Elementary will resume Wednesday, two days after a bathroom fire at the Savage school.
Classes at Savage elementary school to resume Wednesday
About 700 students and teachers were evacuated from the building on Monday morning after a fire was discovered in a boys' bathroom.
The blaze was small and caused no structural harm to the building, but it produced a lot of smoke that damaged many classrooms, school officials said.
Savage police and the state fire marshal's office are investigating the cause. Police have said they believe someone set fire to a roll of toilet paper on a dispenser.
Classes were canceled Tuesday as workers cleaned up.
Nine classrooms that had the most smoke damage will not be ready until the end of the week, so students in those rooms will be temporarily moved to other parts of the school, according to the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage school district. Everything in those classrooms must be replaced or thoroughly cleaned, the district said.
