Yesterday the Prep Sports staff received its first football assignments of the year. Yours truly will be at Bloomington Stadium for Eden Prairie/Kennedy on Thursday and then out to South Dakota Hutchinson on Friday to see the Tigers take on Glencoe-Silver Lake. But before the football season begins, we have some other matters to talk about.

Quite the start to the prep volleyball season tonight when two-time defending Class 3A champion Shakopee heads up Hwy 13 to take on Eastview - the defending Class 3A runner-up. You can bet this one will have a championship-like feel.

"They're going to be ready to go 100 percent against us," Sabers coach Matt Busch said earlier this week.

I live in the neighborhood and plan to head over to EVHS to take in the match. After, I'll climb back on our new and improved site here to provide some commentary.

Other than football, what other prep games or events do you have your eyes on this week?
