Watch where you toss that plastic bottle during your next major event in Minneapolis.
The City Council passed new rules Friday that require organizations hosting parades, races and large block parties to provide plenty of recycling containers and to post signs instructing people to recycle.
They must also submit a written recycling plan with the city beforehand and then later prove that all recyclable waste was delivered to a recycling facility.
How will they prove it? Photographs of the trash, processing facility weight tickets or "other written evidence acceptable to the city."
"This change will put events in line with what our own residents do, and it will ultimately reduce the amount of waste we produce," said Council Member Betsy Hodges, who sponsored the ordinance.
The change, which takes affect on Jan. 1, 2013, applies to block events with more than 2,500 attendees and any parade or race on city streets.
