A holiday weekend means a picnic in the park. A Minneapolis park, anyway.

A line of about three dozen people wait to order food at The Tin Fish on Tuesday evening. Minneapolis Park Board is looking for ways to raise more money and one option is to open more concession stands such as The Tin Fish.

Restaurant guru Kim Bartmann is the creative force behind Lake Harriet's locavore-minded Bread & Pickle, where the Arnie Palmers and hibiscus-flavored punch are deeply refreshing, the well-stuffed sandwiches more than satisfy (love that egg salad), the ice cream is first-rate and service is definitely with a smile.

Chances are you're going to encounter a line at Minnehaha Park's Sea Salt Eatery and, yes, it's worth the wait. Highlights include generously stuffed po' boys and tacos, cool shrimp-scallops gazpacho, beautiful raw oysters, a gigantic soft-shell crab sandwich, hearty stews and a terrific list of moderately priced beers and wines.

At Lake Calhoun's Tin Fish it's all about choices: Thirteen varieties of tacos, a half-dozen fish sandwiches, more than 10 different fried-fish platters (served with fries and slaw), plus burgers and salads and at-the-beach snacks like popcorn and ice cream. Boat rentals, too.
