Always ready and willing to talk, whether it is on a random Thursday afternoon or 15 minutes after an emotional Sunday loss, cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has been named the winner of the Korey Stringer Media Good Guy award for the 2015 season by Vikings beat reporters.

The veteran corner, who is in his second year with the Vikings, received his award in a ceremony in the locker room this afternoon. He said he was "shocked" when Vikings PR told him that he was our selection.

"This is an honor to get this award. I heard Korey was a great guy on and off the field. All I heard was great things about him. And man, I'm truly honored to get this award. Y'all guys, when I got here, you took me in with open arms. Y'all asked me the tough questions and I was OK with it," Munnerlyn said. "Y'all guys have really been great to me this year. I really want to thank all of you guys for voting for me. Like I said, I'm truly honored to get this award. It's a true blessing. Thank you."

Usually in the locker room during the media access periods and always approachable, he admitted, "I know I can talk. I talk a lot. I know that."

He is often spotted joking around with reporters and Vikings teammates. So it's no surprise to learn that Munnerlyn was also named a Media Good Guy award winner by Panthers beat writers after the 2011 season.

Munnerlyn, 27, whose gift for gab dates back to his childhood in Mobile, Alabama, joked that he has learned when to zip it.

"Sometimes, you have to learn how to bite your tongue and sit back and listen," the 5-foot-9 corner said. "It's a little tougher for me to do that because me being a smaller guy, I think I've got little-man syndrome."

Munnerlyn received 10 of the 13 first-place votes from Twin Cities media to edge out several other deserving candidates. Wide receivers Mike Wallace, Stefon Diggs and Jarius Wright rounded out the top four.

Defensive end Brian Robison won the Good Guy award last season.
