Finding a reliable goalie is a top priority for NHL teams, who sometimes use a high draft choice, sometimes scour for European free agents, sometimes develop netminders in their farm systems, and sometimes find one on the scrap heap. Here’s a look at this season’s seven All-Star goalies:
The phenoms
Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh
Age: 30. Size: 6-2, 180. Hometown: Sorel, Quebec. Drafted: first round (first overall) by Pittsburgh in 2003. Made NHL debut at age 19.
Carey Price, Montreal
Age: 27. Size: 6-3, 216. Hometown: Anahim, British Columbia. Drafted: first round (fifth overall) by Montreal in 2005. A starter in the NHL at age 20.
Veteran resurgence
Roberto Luongo, Florida
Age: 35. Size: 6-3, 217. Hometown: Montreal. Drafted: first round (fourth overall) by New York Islanders in 1997. A starter in the NHL at age 20, has been both a star and a backup in his career.
Brought along slowly
Corey Crawford, Chicago
Age: 30. Size: 6-2, 216. Hometown: Montreal. Drafted: second round (52nd overall) in 2003 by Chicago. Played five seasons in the minor leagues.
Jimmy Howard, Detroit
Age: 30. Size: 6-1, 218. Hometown: Syracuse, N.Y. Drafted: second round (64th overall) in 2003 by Detroit. Played three seasons in college and four in the minors.

Jaroslav Halak, N.Y Islanders
Age: 29. Size: 5-11, 186. Hometown: Bratislava, Slovakia. Drafted: ninth round (271st overall) by Montreal in 2003. Is with fourth NHL team.
Brian Elliott, St. Louis
Age: 29. Size: 6-2, 209. Hometown: Newmarket, Ontario. Drafted: ninth round, (291st overall) by Ottawa in 2003. Played four seasons at Wisconsin and two in the minor leagues.
