Chart: Twins roster cuts, what they mean

March 25, 2014 at 5:22AM

Cut time

The Twins reduced their roster to 29 players — 25 will go north — by trimming these players:

Pitchers

Cuts: Ryan Pressly and Michael Tonkin (on the 40-man roster) were optioned to Class AAA Rochester; non-rostered Matt Hoffman, Aaron Thompson and Deolis Guerra were reassigned to the minors; Matt Guerrier was given his unconditional release.

What it means: The pitching staff is set except for the final spot in the rotation. It's between Kyle Gibson and Scott Diamond.

Catcher

Cut: Chris Herrmann (also on the 40-man roster) was optioned to Rochester.

What it means: Josmil Pinto will back up Kurt Suzuki.

Infield

Cuts: Doug Bernier and Deibinson Romero were reassigned.

What it means: The utility infielder job is down to Jason Bartlett and Eduardo Escobar.

Outfield

Cut: Wilkin Ramirez was reassigned.

What it means: Alex Presley is likely the fourth outfielder, unless the Twins keep both Chris Parmelee and Chris Colabello.
