Minnesota pheasant opener

Season: Oct. 10-Jan. 3

Outlook: Pheasant numbers are up 33 percent from last year, but loss of habitat remains a big concern. The southwest, west-central and east-central regions had the highest counts.

Requirements: Besides a small game license, hunters need a $7.50 state pheasant stamp. And at least one visible article of clothing above the waist must be blaze orange

Hours: 9 a.m. to sunset. Daily bag limit: two rooster pheasants (until Dec. 1, when bag increases to three).
