Kyle Altman: from soccer to doctor

High school: Chosen the New Mexico High School Coaches Association's Class 4A boys' soccer player of the year in 2003. Also wrestled for Albuquerque Academy, placing second in state as a sophomore, fifth as a junior and fourth as a senior.

College: Twice named to NCAA Division III All-America team while at Trinity University in San Antonio.

Soccer career: Selected in the second round of the 2008 Major League Soccer supplemental draft by New England. Captained the Minnesota Stars during their 2011 NASL championship season and again in 2012, when he was named to the league's Best XI team. Served as Minnesota United FC captain during the 2013 spring season.

Medicine: White-coat ceremony on July 21 kicks off medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center's School of Medicine in San Antonio.
