RIO OLYMPICS
Dates: Aug. 5-21, 2016
Sports: 42, including newly added rugby sevens and golf
Athletes: 10,500, from 206 countries
Venues: Rio will have four competition zones, including the main Olympic Park in Barra and a secondary park in Deodoro; world-famous Copacabana Beach; and Maracana, built around the iconic soccer stadium.
Are they ready? Rio is behind on some construction projects for the Games, and an Associated Press report last week revealed filthy conditions in waters that will be used for sailing and swimming. The country's economy also has slowed, but officials insist the city will be prepared.
