The Twins have hosted two previous All-Star Games — in 1965 and 1985. Here's a look at those Midsummer Classics:

Site: Metropolitan Stadium, Bloomington (attendance: 46,706)

MVP: Juan Marichal, San Francisco Giants. The NL starter pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Highlight: Willie Mays hit a leadoff homer and Joe Torre and Willie Stargell also homered in the first two innings as the National League took a 5-0 lead.

Remember this? Twins great Harmon Killebrew hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score 5-5. Ron Santo's RBI single in the seventh drove home Mays with the winning run.

Twins participants: Killebrew (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI), Earl Battey (0-for-2), Tony Oliva (1-for-2), Zoilo Versalles (0-for-1), Jimmie Hall (0-for-2), Mudcat Grant (2 IP, 2 ER)

MVP: LaMarr Hoyt, San Diego Padres. The NL starter pitched three innings, allowing two hits, one unearned run.

Highlight: A pair of NL reserves, Willie McGee and Ozzie Virgil, each had two RBI for the NL.

Remember this? The Tigers' Jack Morris, a future Twin, took the loss for the AL. Cleveland's Bert Blyleven, who would be traded to the Twins later in the 1985 season, gave up two runs in two innings.

Twins participant: These were lean years for the Twins, who had only one All-Star: right fielder Tom Brunansky, currently the Minnesota hitting coach. Brunansky in his only plate appearance grounded out to shortstop in the eighth inning against future teammate Jeff Reardon.
