Chart: A look ahead to the PGA Championship

The year's final major will be played next weekend at Valhalla in Louisville:

What: 96th PGA Championship, the final major of the season.

When: Thursday-Sunday.

Where: Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.

Purse: $10 million (winner's share:  $1.8 million).

TV: TNT and Ch. 4.

Last year: Jason Dufner beat Jim Furyk by two strokes at Oak Hill.

Last time at Valhalla: Tiger Woods won his third straight major of 2000, beating Bob May in a three-hole playoff. Woods made a 6-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force the playoff.

Last big event at Valhalla: The Americans won the Ryder Cup 16-11 in 2008.

Did you know? Europe has never had three players win majors in the same year. It has a chance this year after Martin Kaymer won the U.S. Open and Rory McIlroy won the British Open.

Ryder Cup watch

The PGA Championship will be the final qualifying event for Americans to earn the nine automatic spots on the Ryder Cup team. Points will count double. One of the players on the bubble is Phil Mickelson, who holds the U.S. record by playing on nine consecutive teams. The 40th Ryder Cup will be held Sept. 26-28 in Scotland.
