A Little Canada chiropractor who has been previously disciplined by a trade group for inappropriate touching was charged Thursday with raping a client.
Paul D. Thompson, 54, of Vadnais Heights, was charged in Ramsey County District Court with third- and fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to the complaint: Thompson treated the woman on and off for 10 years and began treating her twice a week for injuries she suffered in a car accident. On May 8, the woman went to his clinic in Little Canada for a 4:30 p.m. appointment.
The woman removed some of her clothes and put on a hospital gown. Thompson then took her to a room where he undressed and raped her, the charges said.
"After the assault took place, he began performing chiropractic therapy on her back," the complaint said.
The woman told a Ramsey County sheriff's deputy that she didn't want anyone to know about the assault so she didn't report it immediately. She said she was in shock and didn't speak up during the assault for fear he would use more force. She informed her fiancé.
A deputy had the woman call Thompson on May 20, at which time Thompson allegedly spoke about the assault. Thompson told her what he did was "wrong, totally," the complaint said.
When questioned by authorities, Thompson admitted to the assault, the charges said.
