An armed man grabbed a 15-year-old girl off a sidewalk in the middle of the night in a north Minneapolis neighborhood, put a gun to her head and raped her in one alley and then carried out the same act minutes later in another alley, according to authorities.
Charles E. Stevenson, 34, was charged Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court with first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Stevenson remains jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Stevenson was also charged with violating the terms of his being a state-registered predator offender. He was convicted in 2003 in Hennepin County for rape, with the victim again being a 15-year-old girl.
A message was left with Stevenson's attorney seeking reaction to the latest charges.
According to the criminal complaint from the alleged assaults between 1:15 and 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 2:
The teen said she was walking to a friend's house and noticed a man she didn't know was following her. Moments later, he grabbed her and pressed the gun's barrel to her head.
He took her to an alley near 29th and Irving avenues, and forced her to have intercourse and give him oral sex. Stevenson then walked her to an alley roughly three-fourths of a mile to the west and raped her in the same manner.
Before leaving the girl, Stevenson threatened that he knew where she lived and other details about her, and that he had been following her for a while. The girl was taken to a hospital and underwent a sexual assault examination.
