December 15, 2015 at 2:09AM

A Chanhassen homeowner frightened off a would-be burglar Monday morning, triggering a search that involved three police departments and a K-9 unit.

Carver County sheriff's deputies responded to a call at 10 a.m. from a resident of the 9000 block of Lake Riley Boulevard who had heard a suspicious noise and saw someone jiggling the front doorknob while trying to push the door open. The homeowner called out, and the burglar fled to a nearby woods. Carver County police searched the area with help from the Hennepin County Sheriff's K-9 unit, but could not find the suspect.

The homeowner described the burglar as a male wearing bluejeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Chanhassen had a string of about five burglaries in the area between September and October, the sheriff's office said. Police are asking anyone with information about the attempted break-in to contact the Carver County Sheriff's Office at 952-361-1231 or use the tip line 952- 361-1224.
