October 30, 2010 at 7:25PM

Typhoon Chaba brushed Japan Saturday morning, EDT, passing just south and eastof Tokyo. Portions of Honshu reported over 3 inches of rain since Friday, whilewinds gusted past 40 mph in some areas.Japan was spared from the worst of Chaba as a cold front pressed just farenough south to prevent a direct landfall from occurring. This front has sinceallowed Chaba to lose its tropical characteristics.

However, a new area of low pressure, a non-tropical low, will approach and moveby Japan Sunday into Monday. This low will produce locally heavy rain toportions of Japan.

Many areas can expect 1 to as much as 3 inches of rainfall, while localizedamounts may exceed 5 inches. Localized flooding will occur as a result of theheavy rain.
