On Thursday, we cited a report that the Philadelphia Eagles had joined the party when it came to signing CFL sacks leader Phillip Hunt of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Vikings and Texans had previously shown interest.
Now it appears Hunt is headed to the Eagles. Adam Caplan of the Fox Sports website reports that Philadelphia is set to sign the defensive end. (Update: Hunt received a three-year contract from the Eagles.)
Hunt had 16 sacks for Winnipeg last season. The Vikings likely were interested because they could need to add depth if Ray Edwards and Brian Robison leave as free agents. There is a possibilty both will be on the market, depending on what happens if and when a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.
Caplan had a story about Hunt on Thursday night in which he quoted a pro personnel source saying Hunt "should be able to handle at least 10 plays per game next season at the NFL level."
