Cause of death is changed in murder-suicide

February 15, 2010 at 5:23AM

An investigation into a double-murder and suicide near Lewisville, Minn., last month finds that one victim died from blunt-force trauma and not a gunshot as originally thought.

The Sentinel of Fairmont reports that little else changed in what investigators believe happened Jan. 17.

Authorities say 25-year-old Ashley Sullivan, and her stepfather, 59-year-old Chester Gronewold, 59, were killed in their home by Sullivan's former boyfriend, 28-year-old Shawn Haugen, who then shot himself.

Watonwan County Sheriff Gary Menssen told the Sentinel that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension determined that Gronewold died of blunt-force head trauma, not a gunshot as it first appeared.

Haugen was facing domestic abuse charges and had been ordered to have no contact with Sullivan.
