An 80-year-old driver in a minivan pulled into a rural Carver County intersection and died in a collision with a passing car, authorities said Tuesday.
The crash occurred about 6:50 p.m. Monday at Hwy. 284 and County Road 153, just north of Cologne, the Sheriff's Office said.
Godfrey H. Widmer of Cologne died about three hours later at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. The other driver, Eric M. Hedin, 28, of Waconia, was taken to HCMC with noncritical injuries.
Widmer, with a stop sign to observe while on westbound County Road 153, entered the intersection and collided with Hedin's car as it headed south on Hwy. 284, the Sheriff's Office said.
