MILWAUKEE -- Newly acquired Twins infielder Jamey Carroll will turn 38 on Feb. 18.

He'll be 39 in 2013, during the second year of his deal with the Twins. And he'll be 40 if he returns with his mutual option in 2014.

But his career has been unusual. The more he advances into his 30's, the more he plays. He logged 136 games played for the Dodgers in 2010 and a career-high 146 this year.

"I knew I was going to hear about my age, and I don't feel like I'm as old as what people assume," Carroll said today in a conference call with reporters. "I do my best to take care of myself in-season and in the offseason. I prepare going into every year like I'm going to play every day."

Terry Ryan, who is in Milwaukee for baseball's GM meetings, added: "Yes, we know his age, and we also know if you visually look at him, you certainly don't know if he's 37 or 38. He can still really run. So he's got a lot of those attributes. He's aged well, if that's the right description, so we're not concerned about it."
