The Philadelphia 76ers re-signed free agent swingman Rodney Carney on Tuesday, a year after trading him.

The former first-round pick averaged 7.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 67 games, including six starts, for the Timberwolves last season.

The 76ers acquired Carney in a draft-night trade in 2006 after he was selected 16th overall by Chicago. After two seasons with the 76ers, Philadelphia traded him to the Wolves with Calvin Booth in July 2008.

• The Phoenix Suns reached an agreement on a contract buyout with swingman Sasha Pavlovic, who was acquired from Cleveland in the trade that sent Shaquille O'Neal to the Cavaliers. Yahoo! Sports, citing unnamed league sources, said Pavlovic had agreed to a one-year contract with the Wolves.

• Golden State's Stephen Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA for saying he wanted to be traded. Players are not allowed to make trade requests publicly.

• Spurs forward Richard Jefferson could miss the start of training camp after dislocating his right thumb while working out.

GYMNASTICS

Olympic medalist to miss worlds Olympic silver medalist Samantha Peszek said she is withdrawing her name from consideration for next month's world gymnastics championships in London and will have surgery to repair a torn labrum. She had been one of 10 gymnasts invited to the final U.S. team selection camp, which begins Sept. 30 at the Karolyi ranch outside of Houston.

Peszek, a high school senior, has committed to competing for UCLA.

Peszek is the second Olympian to withdraw from world team consideration. Olympic champion Nastia Liukin pulled out earlier this month, saying she hasn't had enough time to train.
