A car slammed halfway into a Rochester family's home Thursday night, causing significant damage to the house but no injuries to the residents, authorities said.

The driver of the car lost control shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, knocked over a street sign and took out a chain-link fence before punching a hole in the block foundation wall at the basement ceiling level, according to the Fire Department.

The occupants of the home in southeast Rochester got out on their own, and emergency medical responders took the driver to a nearby hospital for unspecified injuries.

Authorities have yet to say what led to the driver going off the road.

Damage to the home and some of its contents was estimated at $20,000.
