The Children's Theatre Company has announced a new season of world premieres and classics, all featuring children as heroes.

The 2011-2012 roster kicks off in September with Victoria Stewart's adaptation of Newbery winner Kate DiCamillo's "Mercy Watson to the Rescue!" The play, to be staged by artistic director Peter Brosius, is a pig-centered adventure that involves a sinking bed, a fearless girl and a neighbor's treats (Sept. 6-Oct. 23, 2011).

Brosius also directs the premiere of "Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy," about a new boy in town who gets to do something important. The show is adapted from Gary Schmidt's Newbery Honor book by playwright Cheryl West (March 13-April 8, 2012).

The Children's Theatre is reviving "The Wizard of Oz" with director Peter Rothstein (Nov. 8, 2011-Jan. 8, 2012), "Pippi Longstocking," directed by Brosius (April 24-June 10, 2012), and "Harold and the Purple Crayon," to be staged by Seattle-based director Rita Giomi (Jan. 17-Feb. 26, 2012)

Ivey Award-winning director Greg Banks, whose notable CTC productions include "Antigone," "Romeo and Juliet" and last season's "Robin Hood," returns to stage the mystery "A Wrinkle in Time" (Sept. 27-Dec. 4).
