RACING DATES AND POST TIMES

The track's 67-day season begins Saturday and ends on Labor Day. Post time is 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Friday race cards, which start May 16, begin at 7 p.m.; Thursday race cards, which begin June 5, also start at 7.

There will be special holiday race cards on Memorial Day (May 26) and Labor Day (Sept. 1), with a 1:30 post. There are special holiday post times on July 3 (4 p.m.) and July 4 (1:30 p.m.). Thoroughbred races will be held throughout the season, and quarter horse races will be added to the schedule beginning May 23.

THIS WEEKEND

Canterbury will simulcast Saturday's Kentucky Derby (post time 5:04 p.m.), as well as a full schedule of races from around the country. The track is accepting advance wagering on the Derby today.

Saturday's live program includes nine thoroughbred races, highlighted by the $50,000 Shot of Gold Stakes.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

The return of the Claiming Crown, a day of races for claiming horses that offers $600,000 in purses, will mark Canterbury's richest day of racing in 2008. The seven-race card is Aug. 2.

The Festival of Champions, which offers more than $400,000 in purses for Minnesota-bred horses, is Aug. 17. Other highlights include a special July 3 card, with a 4 p.m. post time followed by live music and fireworks, and Extreme Race Day on July 20, which features ostrich and camel races.

IF YOU GO

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for age 60 and older and free for youth under age 18, who must be accompanied by an adult. General parking is free, while valet parking costs $6.

DAILY ATTRACTIONS

On Thursdays, admission and Daily Racing Forms are $1 each, and there are food and drink specials. The track features live music and two-for-one admission on Fridays. Sundays are family days, with free pony rides and a petting zoo.
