Cannon Falls police: Attempted abduction did not happen

October 13, 2016 at 3:02AM

Cannon Falls police said Sunday's attempted abduction at a city park did not happen.

Police issued a news release seeking help finding the alleged suspect who attempted to abduct a 10-year-old girl at Hannah's Bend Park.

On Wednesday evening, police said that it did not occur.

The incident was first reported on Sunday as an assault, then investigators learned it was an attempted abduction and decided they needed the public's help in finding the suspect. During a follow-up interview with police, the victim said that the incident did not happen as reported and there was no abduction attempt.

Police want to encourage parents to use this incident as an opportunity to "discuss and/or develop a safety plan with their children."

"It's important to remember that there is still a 10-year-old girl that we want to avoid having traumatized further because of what happened," the news release said.
