A little background research for a simple blog on summer camps brought me randomly to a three-year-old story about Adrien Massy, a Frenchman who fled the U.S. in the spring of 2010 when he was accused of molesting a 10-year-old at a foreign language camp in Bemidji, Minn. Massy was a guest teacher for the French Academy of Minnesota in St. Louis Park and was accused of attempting to fondle a 10-year-old who was sleeping during a class retreat to the Concordia Language Village. A second boy also complained of similar sexual contact and that Massy took pictures of him in the shower.
The first complaint was made June 9, 2010, and authorities issued a warrant and notified customs officials on June 11. But it was too late; Massy left the country June 10.
The absence of a follow-up story simply made me wonder about the status of the case, so I inquired.
Today the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office informed me that arrest warrants for criminal sexual conduct are still active for Massy. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Minneapolis has added a charge of "unauthorized flight to avoid prosecution." But Massy remains free and out of the country.
"And that is where the case will stay until he is apprehended," the spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office stated.
