ArtCars + ArtBikes Parade
Forget high-tech self-driving cars with their monstrous egos and big-buck issues. For an all-American DIY automotive experience, you want this daffy display of creativity. Now in its 22nd year, this don't-miss event includes cars decked out with faeries, dragons, toys, bowling balls and lipstick smooches, as on Patti Paulson's "Lipstick ArtCar," shown here. This year's event is dedicated to the late Tom Edwards, whose leather-covered car with red boxing-glove bumpers was a longtime parade star. Cars line up at 5 p.m. at the Lake Harriet Rose Garden, 4124 Roseway Rd., Mpls. The round-the-lake cruise starts at 6 p.m. BYO picnic basket. (5-7 p.m. Sat. Free. artcarparade.com.)
