One of three people dashing mid-block across Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis early Sunday was run over by a taxicab and suffered severe injuries, authorities said.

Police said they are looking at "several contributing factors" that led to the collision in front of the Brave New Workshop comedy theater, but they did not elaborate.

The victim, identified so far only as a 21-year-old man from out of state, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition, police added.

The three people "ran across" the busy street, near many nightclubs, theaters and dining spots, in the mid-800 block of Hennepin shortly after 3 a.m., police said.

Two made it across from east to west, but one was hit by the northbound cab, according to police.

There is no indication that the cabdriver had been drinking, said police spokesman John Elder. There is no information about whether the man who was run over was under the influence of alcohol, Elder added.

Several witnesses have been interviewed by authorities.
