Brenda Biever noticed Carrie Underwood in the stands at a youth hockey tournament Friday in Edina.
"She came to see one of her girlfriends' sons play youth hockey," said Biever. Biever runs concessions at Minnesota Made Arena. "She came to watch one of the kids on the Machine; they were playing against the X-Treme from Canada. We run a tournament called Stars and Stripes the beginning of May every year. We have tons of kids coming in from out of state and Canada and compete.
"No one recognized her. She was in the stands and so I checked [with] one of my kids keeping score and was like, 'Is that Carrie Underwood right there?' and he was, 'What?' I said, 'Yeah.' Once I said it people started noticing and, of course, the hockey dads started noticing more than anybody," laughed Biever. "It was pretty funny."
Underwood told Biever that she had a concert in Wisconsin and then had an off day before performing in North Dakota.
Brown eats up Twin Cities
Food Network nerd Alton Brown gave Twitter followers beautiful vantage points of his time in Minnesota, which included a Mother's Day appearance at the Orpheum.
Brown wrapped his mellifluous vocal cords around a 55-second voice-over about the Orpheum. It started on the outside, panning down the top of the Orpheum's neon sign to the marquee announcing "Alton Brown Live," and looked as if it was shot from a balcony at the Le Meridien Chambers Minneapolis. Inside, while Brown was on the stage before his "Eat Your Science" show, there is an expansive look at the empty house.
Wait a minute. How can Brown be on stage, taking in the beautiful vistas of the Orpheum, while it's being shot?
I fired off a tweet to Brown asking if he had one of the drones with a camera attached to it. Have not heard back from him.
