C.J.: Target Field's Tradition Wall gets St. Peter all misty-eyed

Twins President Dave St. Peter was nearly moved to tears by Blasted Art Inc.'s execution of one element on the Tradition Wall in the new stadium's plaza.

"You know, I've been there [near tears] a few times on this project," St. Peter told me Wednesday. "You see things that you are involved in, conceptualized. A lot of people [Tom Oslund of Oslund & Associates] have worked on it very closely. Kerry [Dikken] over at Blasted Art did just wonderful work on these. Yeah, they're beautiful. They're going to be great."

Dikken, who first scoured his way into my consciousness by sandblasting designs on jeans and smaller glass objects, applied his technique to eight panels of glass, each measuring 60 by 101 inches, inscribed with the names of 2,400 Twins fans along with quotes from Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew and others. The wall, located between the Carew and Puckett gate entrances, is going to cause envy among many Twins fans, because you too could have had your name up there for just $245.

"You're right about that," said St. Peter, "and never say never -- we may talk eventually about a Phase II. There's nothing definitive on that. There are 2,400 names that will be inter-mixed with pennants [metal plaques] that will have the name of every Twins players who has ever played. We think it's a really neat part of Target Plaza. I think they are going to be one of many signature aspects of Target Field."

You are invited to "actually do rubbings of names," said St. Peter. "That's exactly what the mission is."

When thanked for not allowing this new Twins ballpark to have a concourse as junky as the Tigers' Comerica Park, St. Peter just laughed.

"They are very open," St. Peter said of Target Field's concourses. "We feel good about that. We are working hard to keep the concourses here streamlined."

The money raised from the glass portion of the Tradition Wall helped pay for "the legendary player statues of Mr. Puckett, Rod Carew and Mr. Killebrew which will be unveiled here in the next couple of weeks."

Post-concert scene at Envy

Those Bacardi guys made sure I got the sweetest Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas.

I don't know how Mark Feuerstein, who works with Bacardi USA and lives in LA, charmed me via telephone into attending the Envy nightclub after-party following the group's performance Monday at St. Paul's X. Because there are limits to anyone's charm, Feuerstein couldn't get me to accept tickets to the VIP concert section. I'm not much for most legumes, whether on the stove top or stage.

Saw Apl.De.Ap on stage at Envy, after club owner Deepak Nath climbed up to pull down two women who were dancing without permission on an area in front of the stage.

Wil.i.am was pointed out to me, but I never saw him; I figured he was off someplace with Prince, who multiple sources said never showed at Envy. Fergie must have been back at the hotel keeping her husband, Josh Duhamel, under surveillance when I was at Envy.

I cannot believe how poorly behaved nightclub-goers are these days. Some of you checked your decorum at the door before classlessly hitting the dance floor that resembled a gathering of cats in season. Observing one Taboo was more than enough.

Desperate times
