4:43Some of us really, really wanted to see "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm in a baseball uniform at the Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game.
But not Tim Kurkjian, Aaron Boone and John Anderson, the ESPN commentators for the game, who gave me a scouting report on some of the talent before the game was played Sunday at Target Field. A telecast of the game is scheduled to air Monday on ESPN at approximately 9:30 p.m., directly after the Gillette Home Run Derby.
"January Jones is here, which is nice, because originally it was going to be Jon Hamm, who I like, but I think we're trading up," said Anderson. "Now 50 percent of the population would say No, Hamm was the right person we wanted to look at for the game. But here we are at the stag fest, I think January Jones is the way to go."
I'm guessing Hamm's a much better softball player than Jones. But that really wasn't in their scouting report about Jones.
In my startribune.com/video of this "scouting report" I mostly stepped back and let the professionals do the work.
I do wish Kurkjian, the sideline reporter, had given me a heads-up about what he planned to wear during one costume change, in his role as sideline reporter. Kurkjian briefly slipped into this striped outfit that I would describe as Tony the Tiger in the throes of Zubaz Madness. It was apparently a nod to the Minnesota-made apparel. To see it, you'll have to watch ESPN tonight.
