Word has it that WCCO-TV's Bill Hudson is coming off the morning show.
"Now who would say that," Hudson told me Thursday. Since he was clearly playing the I-say-something-silly-to-her game, I lobbed one back and him and said I didn't know. "Obviously you heard from someone," said Hudson, turning more serious with "I can't talk about that right now. You're going to have to call Scott [Libin, news director] because we haven't decided what's going to transpire. I wish I could but I just can't."
Despite that bit of disingenuousness, I'm going to tell you the truth about Hudson. He is just about the nicest guy ever.
However, he's somebody who is a great reporter but is not necessarily suited for the anchor desk. Some people just aren't. And especially in the mornings viewers like a soothing presences, like his co-anchor Angela Davis, to greet the day. That's not Hudson; he comes off a little tight, although he's really trying not to do so. But he is what he is, a serious news guy.
Hudson has been with WCCO since 1989 and on the morning show four years. I know Hudson, an Elk River native, has got fans out there. Don't worry; Hudson is likely to stay at WCCO. I don't get the impression that WCCO bosses have Hudson's morning show anchor replacement lined up.
