The Twins have activated center fielder Byron Buxton, who had been sidelined with a sprained thumb, and optioned him to Class AAA Rochester.
Buxton hasn't played for the Twins since June 26, and went 5-for-12 during three games on a rehab assignment with the Red Wings.
When he was with the Twins, Buxton batted .189 in seven games with a double and a triple.
The second player taken in the 2012 amateur draft, Buxton played at Class AA Chattanooga before being called up to the Twins in mid-June, where he batted .289 woith 20 stolen bases in 59 games.
