Homeless youths in Minnesota in 2009, according to a study of 9,654 people found in shelters statewide:

• 1,041 ages 18 to 21, a 57 percent increase from 2006.

• 227 ages 12 to 17, a 10 percent increase from 2006.

• The number of beds in youth shelters is about the same as in 2003.

• Black youths ages 12 to 17 make up 6 percent of the total state population but 43 percent of homeless youths.
