Candlelight outings

Here is a roundup of several programs at state parks:

Lake Maria State Park, 6-9 p.m. Saturday

Hike or snowshoe along a 1 ½-mile trail lit with candles. Warm up around campfires with some refreshments. Snowshoes are available to rent. (763-878-2325, mndnr.gov)

Wild River State Park, 6-9 p.m. Saturday

Six miles of trails will be lit up for snowshoers, skiers, and walkers. Save time by getting your vehicle permit in advance at mndnr.gov/reservations. (651-583-2125, ext. 227, friendsofwildriver.org)

William O'Brien State Park, 6-8 p.m. Saturday

Learn about winter constellations and make a constellation chart to take on a walk along the St. Croix River. Then follow the flickering LED lights along a packed 2 ½-mile trail, looking for stars and listening for owls. Enjoy hot apple cider and marshmallows for a marshmallow roast at the visitor center. Gateway State Trail, 5-8 p.m. Saturday

The annual event begins at the Ramsey County Courthouse parking lot, 2050 White Bear Av., near the Maplewood Community Center. (651-259-5875, mndnr.gov)

Rice Lake State Park, 5-8 p.m. Saturday

Head to Owatonna to ski, snowshoe or hike on candlelit trails. Half-mile and 1-mile trails take you through the woods and along Rice Lake's shoreline. Warm up by a bonfire or at the wood stove in the warming shelter at the trail head. Hot beverages provided. Snowshoes will be available for rent in the park office. Classic ski lesson

Elm Creek Park Reserve, 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday

An introduction through fun activities and games for children ages 6 to 8. Cost is $17 ($25 with ski rental). Reservations are required. Call 763-559-6700 and reference activity#12226901. (threeriversparks.org)

Monday night ski

Hyland Lake Park Reserve, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday
