Make it 14 different lineups in 14 games, as Twins manager Paul Molitor has another wrinkle in his starting nine.

Joe Mauer is batting second, Max Kepler is batting cleanup and Byron Buxton is back in there as the nine hole after getting Monday off.

Molitor wanted to give Buxton and his .093 batting average a rest, so Buxton spent the day working on his swing and figuring out ways to break out of his horrific start to the season.

"The work is at a higher degree than when he is playing because it gives him time to take extra swings and do some things that he is trying to find a way to clean up," Molitor said. "It's challenging to know the right days to back him off and put him back in. I want to see him get going a little bit, just for his confidence and certainly will help our team if it does.

"One of these days it is going to happen. Just trying to be patient and put him in the right position."

Mauer is bating just .213 but did have two hits yesterday. And he's a .409 career hitter against Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin.

Phil Hughes makes his third start of the season, another chance to see how he's adapting to what he has. Hughes is not throwing 94 mph fastballs up there any more. But he is using his change up and knuckle curve to his advantage. He sort of pitches backwards, throwing his change and curve in fastball counts and outwitting batters,

We're hoping to get an update sometime tonight on Ron Gardenhire, who had surgery at the Mayo Clinic today to treat his prostate cancer.
