Business briefs: Oakdale Public Works building gets a facelift

Work has started on the 25-year-old Oakdale Public Works building, for which the city received $400,000 in federal money to improve energy efficiency. Total cost of the project is $818,315, said Dave Schaps, assistant to the administrator.

Work has started on the 25-year-old Oakdale Public Works building, for which the city received $400,000 in federal money to improve energy efficiency. Total cost of the project is $818,315, said Dave Schaps, assistant to the administrator.

Upgrades include installation of a geothermal heating system, LED lighting technology and updating new HVAC equipment.

The former Washington County Hazardous Waste facility also will be converted to a mechanics bay, to service the fire engines of Oakdale and Lake Elmo, Schaps said.

The city expects to save $10,000 a year in energy costs.

WOODBURY

Center offers free document shreddingThe Washington County Environmental Center invites businesses and individuals to bring documents for shredding during Shred Right from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Environmental program coordinator Adam Frederick said all shredded documents will be recycled.

A limit of six boxes at 30 pounds each has been set for businesses seeking to use this service for free.

The Environmental Center is located at 4039 Cottage Grove Drive in Woodbury.

Fitness center closesCurves for Women fitness center on Valley Creek Road, east of Woodbury Drive, closed Monday. Current members can transfer memberships to any other local Curves center.

NEWPORT

Post Office plans to re-open this fallThe U.S. Postal Service announced the Newport Post Office will re-open later this fall.

After sustaining more than $1 million in storm damage in late June, the office has been working out of the USPS Cottage Grove offices. The Newport branch expects to re-open by Oct. 1.
