Burnsville officer pinned between vehicles is back on his feet

Officer might return to work in 2 to 4 weeks

A Burnsville police officer who was injured Monday when both of his legs were pinned between two SUVs while he was responding to a traffic accident has no broken bones and is walking, said Jef Behnken, a police department spokesman.

It's possible officer Chris Biagini might have a knee injury, but that won't be known until bruising and swelling subside, Behnken said.

Biagini, 24, has declined to talk about the incident, which happened around 3:50 p.m. at Nicollet Pkwy. and Hwy. 13. He was standing on the road taking information from a motorist involved in a one-car accident when a second driver slid out of control and hit him.

Biagini, who joined the Burnsville Police Department in April, was pinned between the two vehicles and had to use his cell phone to call for help because his police radio was crushed by the impact.

"You could see the formation of his body in the other truck," Behnken said. "The car door of the one vehicle gave way, buckled and probably absorbed a lot of the impact, otherwise it could have been worse."

Behnken said Biagini came to the station today to visit fellow officers, but he won't return to the force for two to four weeks.
