A 20-year-old Burnsville man has been arrested in Las Vegas in connection with a rollover crash that killed a teenager last month in Scott County, authorities said Wednesday.

Khalil Malik Watson is being held in the Clark County (Nev.) jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation, awaiting extradition to Minnesota, according to a news release from Scott County Attorney Ron Hocevar and Sheriff Luke Hennen.

Ja'Mason Moffett, 16, a junior at Shakopee High School junior, was killed in the Sept. 14 crash in Jackson Township. He was one of five people in a Jeep Cherokee that left a gravel road and overturned near a cornfield about 3 p.m.

Two 17-year-olds from Shakopee were critically injured in the crash. An underage girl whose name has not been released and Watson were treated for lesser injuries after the crash.

Initially, the juvenile stated that she had been the driver, but she later changed her story to say that Watson had been driving, authorities said. In addition, Watson has admitted through several text messages to being the driver, they said.

A decision on charges is expected on Thursday, Hocevar said.
