Buildup to election

Iraqi parliamentary elections are scheduled for March 7, and the U.S. military and the Iraqi government have said they expect violence to increase sharply with the approach of the voting. The issue of security is becoming increasingly politicized ahead of the polls. Some Sunni politicians charged that the Shiite-led government had exaggerated the plot uncovered Tuesday to burnish its security credentials.
