Ramsey County has selected Knutson Construction to join the team that will update and expand the White Bear Lake library, one of seven suburban branches.

Knutson will work with Bentz Thompson Rietow Architects on the $3.5 million project. The library will close for construction, slated to begin in July. A tentative reopening is planned for February 2015.

"We are looking for a balance of function and delight, reflecting the unique character of the White Bear community," said Sandy Walsh, deputy director of the Ramsey County Library.

More than 150,000 people annually visit the 12,772-square-foot building, constructed in 1974. Along with a 3,725-square-foot addition, the library will receive a revitalized appearance and updates to mechanical systems and bathrooms.
