After a lull to the start of this winter season, lake-enhanced snow hit withvengeance early Tuesday morning in Buffalo, N.Y. The city's airport wasblanketed by 6 inches of snow in a matter of a few hours. The snow in Buffalo was triggered by a storm passing through the Great Lakes.

The snow became enhanced as colder air flowed over the relatively milder LakeErie. The direction of the wind put Buffalo directly in the path of thisenhanced snow band.

Six inches is the most snow Buffalo has received so far this winter season. Infact, nothing more than a trace of snow was reported at the city's airportprior to early this morning.

On average, Buffalo receives 9.2 inches of snow by the start of December. InNovember 2000, Buffalo was buried by 45.6 inches.
